Peter Conquers Paris
2010 Paris Marathon - 11th April 2010
After completing 3 successive Melbourne Marathons, FIT to the CORE’s Peter Tiliacos, was looking for a new challenge. The Paris Marathon is open to anyone that wants to take on the challenge, so it was too irresistible to refuse.
The very picturesque, 42.195km Paris Marathon, starts on the Avenue des Champs-Élysées going downhill to circle round the Place de la Concorde before turning right onto Rue de Rivoli. The route passes the Louvre, then goes round the Place de la Bastille, and down Boulevard Soult to the Bois de Vincennes. A long loop of the Bois de Vincennes returns the route into the heart of Paris. The halfway point is reached at Rue de Charenton. The route now follows the course of the Seine, passing Île de la Cité and going under the Pont Neuf, then a series of tunnels. There is a large drinks station and foot massage at Trocadéro, opposite the Eiffel Tower. The route continues along the Seine, before branching off east to eventually pass though Bois de Boulogne, emerging for the final 200 metres and the finish on the Avenue Foch.
Peter completed the Marathon in 3 hours 41mins and 30sec placing him in the top 25% of the 40,000 competitors that took part in the Marathon. “This was my biggest an greatest challenge so far. I was just so pumped and totally focused on the whole run. I’m feeling great now but I know I’ll feel it tomorrow. I wish to thank all my friends and family especially my wonderful wife, Maggie for all their support.”
Peter, and his Marathon Training Team, will commence training for the Melbourne Marathon in June. The 2010 Melbourne Marathon will be held on 10th October.

Fighting Fit after Battle of the Bulge.
Blog from the Moreland Leader newspaper - September 10th 2007
PASCOE VALE'S Peter Tiliacos went from battling the bulge to fighting fit after a routine check up made him rethink his eating habits and run a marathon. The 37-year-old program administrator and former couch potato was struggling to get out of bed when his doctor told him he is fast on his way to developing heart problems and diabetes. After a total lifestyle change Mr Tiliacos lost 36kg and qualified to become a personal trainer. ``I had a lot of support from my wife who is very passionate about cooking. I was eating good food that gave me the strength and energy to do what I wanted to do,'' he said. ``It is 70 per cent healthy eating and 30 per cent activity. I started walking and then a bit of jogging and gradually running.'' Mr Tiliacos has registered for the Melbourne Marathon on October 7 and Around the Bay in a Day, only two weeks later. He has been doing training runs and bike riding to get himself fit for the two big events. ``I'm excited and eager to get it done,'' he said. Mr Tiliacos said that, when he first tried to lose weight, he did it the hard way and pushed his body to the limit. ``It is important to get enough fluids and stretch before doing any sort of activity,'' he said.
